In the backstreets of Richmond, hidden just off the main drag, sits a distillery that feels more like a neighbourhood secret than a slick spirits brand. Behind the industrial roller door at 61 North Street, copper stills hum, native botanicals waft through the air, and one of Melbourne’s most unique gin stories quietly unfolds.
This is Brogan’s Way, a small batch distillery built on science, creativity, and family.
At its heart is Brogan Carr, a trained distiller with a background in biomedical science, and her father Simon, an engineer and project manager who helped bring her vision to life. A father backing his daughter’s vision, and a distiller using science not to complicate spirits but to perfect them. Together, they’ve carved out a path that feels entirely their own: equal parts technical precision and warm hospitality.
Brogan’s Way launched in 2018 with a simple goal: to create spirits that reflect the diversity, creativity, and energy of Melbourne without compromising quality or individuality.
The distillery’s lineup now includes eight distinct gins, each with its own identity, flavour, and personality. From bright, citrusy crowd pleasers to vibrant, spiced winter pours, the range maintains its classic gin structure while daring to experiment.
Of all the gins in Brogan’s artillery, the Strawberries & Cream Gin stole our heart. It’s a playful yet beautifully balanced expression: bright with sweet strawberry, soft vanilla notes, and a creamy finish. Offering drinkers a nostalgic experience, this grown-up dessert in a glass is perfect for every sipping occasion. Whether in a G&T or a sour-style cocktail, it’s the one we keep going back to.
However, a few standouts worth mentioning include:
Evening Light — a delicate, floral forward gin with notes of raspberry, grapefruit and rose. A gateway gin for sceptics and a bartender’s dream in a spritz or G&T.
Everyday Salvation — a smooth, balanced all rounder that honours the traditional London Dry style but is undeniably Brogan’s botanical signature.
Royal Blood — deeper, richer, and more intense. Designed for spirit forward cocktails like Negronis and Martinis that require gin with a backbone.
Hearts Afire — a bold, spiced gin with warm notes of clove, cinnamon and cassia bark. Built for cold weather, but not limited by it.
The Richmond distillery invites guests into its neighbourhood hangout space to taste the full range of its spirits (gins, vodkas, liqueurs, and the occasional single malt release), attend cocktail workshops and gin masterclasses, or simply settle in with a G&T and a plate of share style food.
It’s welcoming, personal, and unmistakably Melbourne.
Find your way to Richmond. There’s something worth sipping waiting for you.
